work from home personal trainer

More and more people are making the transition to work from home.

Financial consultants, writers, hair stylists, and website designers are all able to work from the comfort of their own home and, oftentimes, on their own schedules.

Are you a personal trainer? Or are you passionate about fitness? Why not launch an in-home personal training business? You can help people become stronger and realize their fitness goals without leaving your house.

If you’re thinking, “I could do that,” you are also probably wondering how to be an online personal trainer.

If you’re already certified as a personal trainer, becoming an online personal trainer might be easier than you think. If you are new to the personal training business, don’t worry. The steps you have to take to become properly certified are detailed below.

Continue reading to learn how to do in-home personal training.

How To Be An Online Personal Trainer

Create Your Business

Be sure to start your business properly by registering it as a limited liability company (LLC) and obtaining a business license. You’ll also need strategic business materials like:

  • A way to collect payment;
  • A way to accept referrals; and
  • A website and social media platform.

Once you are set up as a business, you can dive into the exercise element of your new job.

Determine Your Location

First off, you’ll need a space to do your at-home training workouts. An open space with all the required equipment—including a webcam or other recording device—is necessary to properly demonstrate exercise routines for your clients.

Cultivate Your Clients

You’ll also need to develop your clientele. The market for online personal trainers is growing, especially for people who:

  • Don’t like going to the gym;
  • Have a home gym; or
  • Have limited time to work out.

Once you know who you’ll be sharing your personal training expertise with, you can better curate your lesson plan.

Deliver Your At-Home Workouts

You’ll have to decide how often you’ll have your online personal training sessions and in what format. Will it be live classes that multiple people can join? One-on-one sessions? Recorded sessions that people can access online?

No matter how you plan to deliver your content, be sure to be consistent and communicate the cadence to your clients.

Certifications and Experience

If you have previously worked as a traditional in-gym personal trainer, you likely already have the necessary certifications. However, if you’re new to the profession, it is a good idea, but not necessary, to obtain the proper licenses.

The American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise offer certified personal trainer programs. You should also become certified in CPR.

If you’ve found yourself wondering about online personal trainer jobs, now might be the time to begin an at-home gym. You can help people become more fit from the comfort of your own home on your own schedule. Plus, you can make money doing what you love.
