core numbers numerology

Ancient civilizations believed numbers showed us the purpose and meaning of life. This belief is known as numerology. Everything is rooted in numbers. Numbers affect our lives and offer explanations of worldly happenings. The five core numbers in numerology have the most significant impact on a person’s self.

If you are interested in astrology or numerology, you’ve come to the right place. At Stratford Career Institute, we offer a foundational course in astrology/parapsychology. You will learn the basics of astrology and numerology, including the five core numbers.

5 Core Numbers in Numerology

Numerology studies numbers and how they affect different aspects of our lives, including love, career, and health. The five core numbers are the most important numbers in numerology. They explain who we are as human beings and will remain with us forever without changing. Read on to learn more about each core number.

Life Path Number

The life path number is arguably the most important core number. It is a map of your life. In that map, you can find your life’s purpose and discover what your life entails. What you face, what you learn, and how you forge your way in life are all influenced by your life path number. It affects who you are meant to become in your life.

Birthday Number

Your birthday number is taken from the date of your birth. Therefore, it is a unique number that was explicitly meant for you. It represents the talents you were born with and the complexities of life you will face.

Expression Number

Your expression number is also called your destiny number. This number is essentially an expression of you. It represents who you are: the bad and the good. It also illustrates what you are good at and what you need to improve on.

Soul Urge Number

Your soul urge number is also called your heart’s desire number. This number represents your heart’s deepest wants and needs. It answers the questions, Why do you do what you do? What is your motivation? What are your dreams?

Personality Number

Your personality number highlights your outward personality. Or it shows who you are to others and the impression they get from you. Essentially, your personality number is your outer shell or your exterior.

Your personality number controls how much of yourself you reveal to others. Are you an open book to everyone? Or do you guard yourself and are open to only a select few?

How Do You Calculate Each Core Number?

Each of the core numbers has a specific method of calculation. Let’s see how we can calculate each core number in detail.

Life Path Number

To calculate your life path number, add the digits of your birthday. If the sum is not a single-digit number or a master number, then add the digits again. Continue this until you get a single-digit or master number. Master numbers are 11, 22, and 33. These numbers are called master numbers because they have a powerful presence.

Consider this example. Suppose your birthday is November 24, 1952. To add each digit, you would add 1+1+2+4+1+9+5+2=25. You still need a single digit, so now add the digits of your last result: 2+5=7. If this were your birthday, your life path number would be seven.

Birthday Number

Your birthday number is the easiest of the core numbers to calculate. You just use the day you were born. You do not need to reduce the number to single digits or a master number.

For example, if you were born on April 10, 1965, your birthday number would be 10.

Expression Number

Your expression number is calculated using your full birth name. You assign numbers to each letter of your full birth name. Add these numbers together. Add the digits of the sum until you reach a single-digit or master number.

Suppose your name is John Doe. You must take each letter and assign it to a number. Use the table below. You would add the 1+6+8+5+4+6+5 = 35. You would then continue to get a single-digit number by adding 3+5=8. Your expression number would be eight.

ABCDEFGHI
JKLMNOPQR
STUVWXYZ

Soul Urge Number

To calculate the soul urge number, you assign a number to only the vowels in your full birth name.

To do this, you would use the same chart that we used above to calculate a person’s expression number. Once you convert the letters to numbers, add them together and reduce them again to a single-digit or master number.

Suppose your name is Jane Smith. You would take the vowels only (a,e, and i) and convert them to numbers. You would add 1+5+9=15. To get a single-digit number, you would then add 1+5=6. Your soul urge number would be six.

Personality Number

To calculate your personality number, you first assign numbers to the consonants in your full birth name. The process is identical to what you did to calculate your soul urge numbers. Use the same chart for the letter conversion to numbers. However, use the consonants in your name, not vowels.

Once you have the numbers, add them and reduce them to a single-digit or master number.

Suppose your name is John Smith. Convert the consonants of your name into numbers. Add 1+8+5+1+4+2+8=29. You still must reduce this to a single-digit or master number, so add 2+9=11. Your personality number is 11. Remember, 11 is a master number, so you do not need to continue to add the digits to get a single-digit number.
